When we lived in Chicago grocery stores started doing online ordering/delivery. I thought how cool would it be if as you used items you passed them by a bar code reader near the garbage and it added to your shopping list.

With the new iPhone camera I would love to see an app that uses the camera to read bar codes to enhance the shopping list experience (my current fave, sans bar code reading, is Grocery Gadgets). Ideal world you could either use the list at the store or use for electronic ordering. Also use location based text to resort the list by shopping order as you walk into the store. We’re getting there.
