I’m not an Oprah fan but we Tivo’d her 2 year Katrina special. It was amazing, sad, well done and hopefully got through to a lot of America that New Orleans is a mess and that this same experience can come to your town if a natural or other disaster hits. A grand total of 22 psychologists work in New Orleans today. For 25% of residents their only medical care is emergency rooms. FEMA trailers turn out to be toxic AND they want to take those away.
The 9th Ward that we visited during the first Jazz Fest after “K” has basically not changed. Lot’s of soundbites since then, photo ops… still no one in charge or making it happen.
We are losing a city and people are suffering. We all lose.
