World Upside down
A drum major in the inauguration parade caught eye contact with Obama and gave a smile and wave in return… got suspended for breaking strict military protocol… and then so much attention got focused on this minutia that he resigned and the band leader has taken a leave of absence. What is wrong with the world when what should have been such a highlight for this band has turned so ugly...

Trickle up economics
Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, when talking to Glen Ifil, mentioned jokingly that he supports a trickle up bailout plan… give us the money but only good for consumer debt and mortgages. Got me thinking… we are spending trillions to bail out the banks yet there are roughly only 300 million citizens of the US… maybe they should give us each $1 million? Talk about...

A presidency in photos →
I found this premise interesting: During the last week of the Bush administration, I asked the head photo editors of these news services — Vincent Amalvy (AFP), Santiago Lyon (AP) and Jim Bourg (Reuters) — to pick the photographs of the president that they believe captured the character of the man and of his administration.     ERROL MORRIS in New York Times

Word for the Day: Femtocell →
Wikipedia:  small cellular base station, typically designed for use in residential or small business environments.  The link will take you to some recent articles about US carriers rolling them out. The only reason we still have a landline is that AT&T cel service is a bit spotty at home, this seems like the answer when AT&T rolls theirs out.

Display problems Internet Explorer
I am very happy with the new theme I am using for this blog but a friend chatted me yesterday to say it was displaying all left of screen for her.  I just checked and it seems Internet Explorer has issues with the theme. If you are having problems email me with what browser you are using on what platform and I’ll see what I can do. In the mean time you might want to try using Firefox if you...

– Andy Ihnatko, MacBreak Weekly 124, 1/20/09 I love to think of Apple as telling a story through its line of products, so to hear Andy say this makes me want to buy him a bird and brush his pretty hair. (via lonelysandwich)

Sirius Disorder
When Sirius/XM merged they killed one of my favorite stations - 33 Sirius Disorder. DJ Meg Griffin was the main reason I liked Disorder, she was on other channels but it was not the same. I just discovered that Meg is now doing a show called Disorder on The Loft (Sirius 29) from 12-6p ET.

Atheist is the new black
As we enter a period of amazing change and reflect on the MLK holiday I saw this story from the UK: A bus driver in London refused to drive a bus bearing an ad that says “There’s probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life” paid for by an atheist group. It bothers me that they don’t say what happened after he walked off his shift?  Was he fired, was his pay...
