“opening oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, building more...”
–  points from Bush speech today. Why does no one have the balls to make a “put a man on the moon in 10 years” type speech?  ”No more oil dependence in 10 years”. I’d vote for that person.

New Orleans 3 years later
Our waitress one night told us her home in Lakeview had 18ft of water and was destroyed.  The whole neighborhood, gone.  The insurance company declared it wind damage and denied claims. There is a class action suit, which will get dragged out in courts and could take 17 years to resolve.  She is still paying the mortgage.

New Orleans
I cannot adequately describe my love for this city.  Last night we went to our favorite restaurant, Jacques-imo’s.  Amazing food, great people. Paul Allen (Microsoft billionaire) was there with Dan Aykroyd and and a party. Somewhere mid dinner our waitress brings out shots of Patron… then the owner Jack comes by tells her to bring us a bottle of Champagne.  Later, as we leave, he has...

New Theme
Hope you like the new look for the blog.  I have been prowling the themes available for tumblr for a long time and you may have noticed I have been changing the look from time to time. This one is called Scrapbook which I think fits a blog and I think it’s one of the nicer themes.

Planes, Trucks and Taxis
I wrote a while back about how I don’t understand how an industry like trucking could exist in a model where fuel cost was not built in per mile… as in the trucker should not be hurt by fluctuations in gas prices. In Vegas I had multiple cab drivers complain about too many cabs on road and gas prices (and a million other things - grumpy cabbies in that town).  Again, in this day and...

Good to be home
We were busy at NAB.  We did 3 fxguide podcasts including hosting a barcamp before one for fxphd students, shot 2 fxguidetv episodes, Mike did a VFX Show podcast and Red Centre one, we did half of the Flame Master Class, had a fake fxguidetv episode in the Autodesk User Group, recorded two fxphd classes including organizing a shoot at the Neon Boneyard for one, Mike spoke at a RED seminar, the...

Side Show
I always see things at NAB that have nothing to do with my area - that I find fascinating.  That is actually one of my favorite parts of this business - the wide variety.  Ran into two old friends who brought me a couple of those moments for this NAB. One has a side company that provides video connections between TV stations, corporate clients, uplinks, etc. So they all own a video connection to...
