It's the little things
Dialed a number manually on the iPhone today - the old touchtone keyboard. Turns out the number was already in my phone book,  which the iPhone informed me by showing the company name under the number as soon as I completed dialing.  Simple and elegant.

Vignette
Aperture 2.0 added a vignette option… I thought who cares?  I care.  I am amazed how often a photo looks better with a slight darkening of the edges, nothing obvious, just enough to draw you to center. I am an over saturating, vignetting fool. I even vignette’d the toilet in the earlier post.

“Dance Party Friday spreads”
– Back in January I posted a link to a Cincinnati TV morning news show clip where they started playing music and doing Dance Party Friday with anchors dancing. It has now spread to LA on KTLA.  Last week they added the twist of dropping the helicopter reporter off in the desert and filming her from...

What are these people so afraid of? →
Satellite radio is not oil, water, food… no one needs it, rather they can choose to pay for it.  I understand those with a vested interest in free, crappy radio trying every maneuver to mess with satellite. I even understand the Jesse Jackson’s of the world looking for a money grab.  But who is paying off these attorney generals? Seriously, we are to believe that two satellite...

There is an article in the LA Times about car washes and how the workers are often illegal and paid very little. Oddly, I know of only ONE car wash in the area (just below LAX) that is automated. It costs $5 - $10 instead of the usual $15-$30 with the big difference being it is 100% automated and you have to do your own vacuuming and the only drying done is by blowers. I have only seen 2...

Show Reels
Over at our training site, fxphd, as part of the Background Fundamentals class that all post grads enrolled have access to, Mike Seymour has done something brilliant. He took a show reel and got access to all the elements that made it up and cut an alternate version.  He then sat down with two recruiters from Animal Logic and discussed the two reels and what they are looking for in a reel.

Mozza
I had business in Hollywood today and ended up having a great lunch at Mario Batali’s place Mozza.  It was kind of surreal because it’s in the building right down from where Editel LA used to be (Highland and Melrose).  Mozza is two restaurants actually - a nice one and a pizzeria.

Fry's takes Amex!
You know you are a nerd if that title made you read this.  I was standing at checkout at Fry’s Electronics and there was an Amex logo on the register. They were famous for not taking it. I asked the cashier and she said it just happened last week.
