Network Sleazy Tactics
The CW promoted the hell out a special called “Gossip Girl Revealed”*** in the promos they showed clips of the cast sitting around telling behind the scenes stories.  Instead they took episode one and added those interviews at commercial breaks making it an hour and a half.   They added maybe 20 minutes of new stuff and re-re-ran an episode they just re-ran last week. Hey CW, guess...

If you can't handle your liquor...
We left Park City Sunday night.  Monday morning it started snowing there and both my partners in fxguide had hell travel days. Mike had it worst.  It started with delayed flight, then a passenger threw up on a stewardess so they had to return to gate, then TSA thought they said “threw at” instead of “threw up” so Homeland security stormed the plane resulting in an...

Lorelai on speed
A lot of TV shows when run in syndication are sped up slightly and voices pitch corrected to sound normal (this let’s the station get more commercials in).  We observed that this is an unwise techinque when applied to the fast-talking Gilmore Girls.

See and be seen
Only one Sundance celebrity sighting so far today, Sandra Oh.   Someone walking by thought I was Michael Moore.  Great, I lose 40 pounds and get mistaken for Michael Moore…   next year I’m looking to be mistaken for Clooney.

Post-Macworld Wrap-up Part 1: MacBook Air
An elegant Macworld Wrap up from my friend Adam:  Okay, enough with the bombarding me with messages pleading for my unique take on the Macworld product announcements (Mom).  I needed a second to process, but now I’m ready.  Disclaimer: I’m not sure if any of this is unique - during the past few days where I was never outside of a 1.5 mile radius of Macworld, I’d never been more...

Being Digital
In 1995 I read Nicholas Negroponte’s book Being Digital.  Thinking back on many of the concepts he discussed then it’s amazing how right on he was.   He talked about technology changing how we watch network television.  Tivo and other similar systems certainly have done that.  He talked about stopping thinking about products as things, rather as bits. Software and music have made the...

Rat Karma
I should have known when the day started with the exterminator hauling a dead rat out of the attic.   When I ventured to the store, I should have known… first store did not have what I wanted.  Second store (where I had bought item before) I could not park anywhere and gave up.  Third store, well let’s just say if on the TV show Reaper when they deliver trapped souls to go back to the...
